The Disappointing Rival System in Pokémon White 2 DS

When I first played Pokémon Silver, my rival was a character that I was determined to show the error of his ways. The dynamic between us added an extra layer of excitement to the game. Even games like Ruby, which had a friendlier approach to the rival system, felt fresh and like a new direction. However, the latest iteration in the series, Pokémon White 2 DS, has introduced a rival system that I find tedious.

In previous games, my goal was to be the best trainer and prove myself by defeating my rival. But with Oak's grandson at the forefront of Pokémon White 2 DS, it feels like he thinks he's the center of attention, and we're all just orbiting around him. Instead of feeling motivated to beat him, I feel like I'm just going through the motions.

Another aspect that has disappointed me is the design of some of the newer Pokémon. Gone are the days of cool and cute creatures; now we have blobs stuck together making pained gargling sounds. The game's focus on creating a sense of pride and joy in one's Pokémon has been lost. I found myself wanting to eliminate each and every ugly critter rather than being happy and proud of my team.

To be honest, I had doubts about buying Pokémon White 2 DS, but I ended up making the mistake. Unfortunately, this game was a huge letdown for me. It's not that I dislike all the Pokémon introduced after Silver and Gold – there are some exceptions – but I do feel like most of them have lost their appeal.

While I managed to complete Pokémon White, I couldn't muster the enthusiasm to continue playing. The rival system in Pokémon White 2 DS has taken away the excitement and motivation that made previous games enjoyable for me. Overall, this game was a disappointment, and I'm not eager to revisit the Pokémon White track anytime soon.
